About Us

BACKGROUND OF ORGANIZATION:

The Shaiq Network was established on August 20, 1995. It operates in various fields including media, health, engineering, education, sports, production, and charity.

The organization’s headquarters is located in the Nangarhar province of Afghanistan, and it also has a second office in the United States, which broadcasts the second channel called “Sharq Global.” The organization has successfully implemented numerous projects aimed at community development, empowerment, welfare, and the promotion of Afghan culture. Additionally, the team works to assist newcomers in the United States in better adjusting to the U.S. culture through various programs.

The Shaiq Network has achieved significant milestones in community development, some of which include:

Establishment of educational programs aimed at increasing literacy rates.
Production and broadcasting of informative and entertaining content that highlights the rich Afghan culture.
Implementation of health initiatives to improve the well-being of the community.
Support for engineering projects that contribute to infrastructure development.
Promotion of sports activities to encourage physical fitness and unity.
Conducting charitable activities to provide assistance and support to those in need.

These achievements reflect the commitment of the Shaiq Network to making a positive impact on the community and showcasing the true essence of Afghan culture.

*In 2005, the media center was established to consolidate the operations of Sharq, Nargis, member radios, Sharq TV, and Shaiq newspaper under one roof. The media center is housed in a four-story building spanning 2000 square meters, dedicated to the broadcasting and production needs of these entities..

In 2008, the establishment of the first private TV station marked a significant milestone. This TV station offers round-the-clock broadcasting and has garnered the highest viewership in the region.

On September 11, 2007, Nargis Radio, a radio station dedicated to women, was established. It currently employs 19 female staff members, and all of its broadcasting programs are tailored for a female audience.

As part of our initiatives, we organized a poetry competition for young girls in the eastern region of Afghanistan, specifically Nangarhar, Laghman, and Kunar. Approximately 100 girls participated and submitted their poetry. We awarded prizes to the top three position holders in each province, totaling nine winners. Furthermore, we compiled all the poetry into a book for publication.

Based on the demands and needs, on November 9, 2010, we established a religious radio station called Member Radio. This radio station exclusively broadcasts Islamic programs with the aim of promoting authentic Islam.

Currently, we are actively involved in training young individuals in various media fields such as photojournalism, print media, internet news, video editing, investigative journalism, media management, video camera shooting, film making, and more. Our goal is to elevate the status of these fields in Afghanistan and equip the youth with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the media industry.

In the middle of 2007, we conducted training programs for over 250 young individuals in various fields of journalism and media production. The training focused on areas such as photography, reporting, news broadcasting, audio production, and audio editing.

The purpose of these training programs was to address the shortage of skilled technicians in our media sectors. We aimed to provide opportunities for talented individuals to work and contribute to the growth of the media industry.

* In 2005, we produced a film called “Black Poison” with the aim of raising awareness among the Afghan people. The film addressed important issues such as terrorism, drug addiction, and educational challenges. Recognizing the limited access to cinema and television broadcasting in the region, we distributed 20,000 copies of the film free of cost to reach a wider audience and promote social awareness.

* In 2005 a cricket tournament was organized among 22 districts and the 10 best teams of Jalalabad city. A lot of Prizes were given to the teams and a gold cup to the winning team.

Board of Director

Shafiqullah Shaiq is the president of Shaiq Network/Media Center a private organization based in Jalalabad city (eastern Afghanistan) running a private TV channel, two private radio stations, and one newspaper.
In 1994 he started the journey of an organization in the education sector. Today the organization is running one private TV station, three Private Radio Stations, a News Paper, and a Film Production Agency.
In addition, Eng. Shaiq is the Director of Afghanistan’s Independent Media Association, an association of Private Radio and TV networks mainly working in the provinces of Afghanistan.
Shaiq has served the Afghan Nation in different fields, including education, health, construction, media, film production, social services, promoting sports, and the role of women in Afghan society.

Mrs. Shaiq has been a board member for Shaiq News Network since 2000. Besides board member, she is a supervisor for Nargis F.M radio since 2007. Nargis is the first-ever radio dedicated to women and their empowering programs in Nangarhar Province. Shallah Shaiq was the first woman to start her own private business through the Radio that is still operating to this date by its own expenses. The F.M radio covered all women-related issues and share them with people in a pleasant and beautiful language praised by its listeners. The Radio Staff also provided five hundred (500) women with short-term educational programs in journalism.

Henna shaiq who is multilingual has a bachelor’s of Political Science and Public Administration from the American University of Afghanistan and a minor in law. Currently, She is seeking JD in the United States. She has more than five years of experience in journalism, leadership, media, communications, and Marketing. she was recognized as a recipient of the Honor Award, worked for human rights and women’s equality through journalism, Collaborated with government officials as Vice President of the Political Science Club, Served as Afghan Youth Representative at the South Asian Youth Conference, Led conversation and published paper on transitional justice in collaboration with Leipzig University and worked with the NSC in the media and communication’s department.

Marshall (Halima) has a bachelor’s degree in literature from Nangarhar University and has fourteen years of interesting experience in the field of journalism As a political broadcaster and curator, he worked as a professor of journalism and public relation at AL- Falah university also he worked acted as the head of the language department in the Wazir M- Gul khan high school he has received over 30 training in the field of media from domestic and foreign trainers and has received letters of appreciation from various quarters for his outstanding services in publishing.

Rahmatullah Shaiq is the Afghan Parolee Community Coordinator for the APA program at HIAS. Before joining HIAS in November 2021, he was a project manager at Shaiq Network, leading multiple projects for the U.S Government in Afghanistan. These projects’ primary role was to create Civic engagement with the government through Media and roundtable programs. Prior to that, he was a public relations officer and the Social Media Manager at Shaiq Network. In Addition, he has worked as an IT manager for a Radio network in Kabul, Afghanistan. Alongside his career, he worked with a nonprofit organization and helped provide aid to newly arrived immigrants with shelter, housing, and other resources. Mr. Shaiq has also organized multiple tournaments with the primary message being peace in Afghanistan by hosting a Cricket tournament for the youth and a football tournament. Mr. Shaiq was a student at the American University of Afghanistan and has transferred to The University of Maryland to pursue his bachelor’s in Business Administration. Outside of his job, Mr. Shaiq is creating programs in Afghanistan to highlight the daily struggles of the Afghan population online.’

currently the managing director of Nargi’s radio which is special for women as he has done and has been doing professional and journalistic work in the related field. Mr. Rahmani has published articles, analyzes, reports, and literary articles in a variety of journals in eastern Afghanistan including Sharq Magazine. 1. Narcissus Breaths This one is his first published work. This identity has been collected and written by Shafiqullah Rahmani and it was published by Nargi’s radio in the year 1391 in Nangarhar. This identity represents the biographies and poetics examples of 62 female poets from the eastern regions of present Afghanistan. The number of pages is 174. The majority of these poets are born in the last decade (2001-2011) whose emotions are young and warm. This identity was published in 2,000 volumes in Kabul. 2. Journalism Guide This is also another unpublished work that discusses the foundations of journalism, genres, ethics, and various journalistic topics. 3. The History of Pashto Literature This textbook is an unpublished work that covers the Pashto language and literature from past to present. 4. You Were Disloyal This is an unpublished novel and its content covers different aspects of social life like love, hate, helplessness, and other problems of society. 5. Research It is also a textbook which is not been published yet. It contains the best topics on general research and literary research in particular. 6. Folklore and Children’s Literature This is a university textbook work that is being taught as a chapter but it’s ready to be printed. This work was also the subject of his master’s thesis. At the beginning of the book, folklore, folkloric, and children’s literature have been discussed. 7. Identity of Students’ Poets This literary identity contains the poetry of children who are studying in various schools. It was done with the collaboration of UNICEF, the Department of Education, and Sharq TV in Nangarhar. In addition to Mr. Rahmani’s above mentioned published and unpublished works and writings, daily writing is a journalistic genre, which is consisting headlines, news, reports, or different scripts for publications, but these journalistic writings are commonly no longer existed and get disappeared as soon as the broadcasts finish. Over the course of his 15-year career, he has written hundreds of scripts but when the broadcast has finished, they have vanished. Mr. Rahmani writes when it is needed and he is very interested to write. But in the least deal of time, he has the ability and interest to write political, literary, and social topics but owing to lack of time, he only writes the necessary topics related to his own affairs.

Nargis Radio

Nargis Radio 92.4 FM
Established on 11th September 2007, is a Radio station run by women for women. It is aimed at the production and broadcasting of programs mainly focused on the social life of women in Afghan society;
the radio promotes awareness about the role of women in community development. Nargis FM is the only radio station operated by women journalists for women. It is focused at educating women, empowering them, and enabling them to overcome their social problems. It operates
on a 600W Transmitter with5000 WT DePaul Antenna installed on 85 meters tall tower; is accessible on 92.4 MHZ locally and through internet live streaming.

Goals and Objectives:
• Increase the literacy rate of women.
• Highlight the role of women in social development.
• Provide guidance to women on their day-to-day affairs.
• Overcome the challenges faced by women.
• Promote positive Afghan culture and Islamic guidance.
• Serve as a bridge between the government and the people.
Nargis radio with a limited budget and a limited number of employees is able to produce such programs that are promoting them on the way of success. In this team along with the director, 15 women journalists are working.
• The above-mentioned team members pursued journalism through different seminars,
workshops, and training held in SHaiQ network. They are now able to record, edit and broadcast their own programs.
• The broadcasting department of Nargis radio is very active. They broadcast programs, commercials, and messages from different departments within the network on exact time and schedule.

Free media is one of the past thirteen years’ achievements. Many of the barriers in culture, education, sports, languages, the Internet, and social activities are reduced significantly. Nargis Radio: Free media played an important role in public awareness; facing the challenges and how to deal with them. Media has covered many aspects of Afghan life. Media pointed out flaws to be corrected. It helped to indicate these problems to the nation
and the international community.
Today, there are fifty different radio and TV stations in Nangarhar Province. It indicates that people in this region follow media for their own information.
Nargis Radio is the first radio in eastern Afghanistan to cover women’s issues for women.
Nargis is run by women entirely. It is because Nargis aims to cover women’s issues by language. It tries to help women to understand or acquire life skills and about life on a regional level. It means the radio programs help women to standardize their life. Coordination: Nargis is in close coordination with the UNA, MBS, MTN, Etisalat, Salam Watandar, Women office in Nangarhar, and all other offices for a better understanding of radio
programs. Nargis lies on business commercials financially.
Women issues in women Language: Nargis FM radio is the only radio dedicated to women in this region. Through our programs we
advise women in their langue for a better life and their participation in the country’s improvement, opportunities, and challenges.
Prior to the radio programs, there were many taboos and toughness leaving women behind and completely non-exist existence but now it appears our programs helped to reduce all these tragedies, or in other words, we open women’s eyes.
Motivation toward Education: Nargis aims to preach education as a tool of change, education as a value to make women’s lives better
and enable them to take part in daily life outside their homes.

educational environment. At first mothers orient their offspring home and then they send them to schools. Research has shown that family-oriented or mother-backed students always do better in schools.

background does better in school classes. Their education accuracy is a lot better compared to those who do not have a sports history.
Higher education can help women to be independent financially and also help them to achieve their primary opportunities. Education makes them a better person. Their education can help them to get better jobs and have some income.

Such radio programs improve women’s life. These improvements bring in financial and psychological security, and they can play
an important role in the family economy. being on these jobs women better understand how to help their Afghan sisters.

life badly. All programs aim to help women so they will be able to help themselves and others. Knowing their rights: Because of illiteracy, women have little understanding of their rights given. Property inheriting, Nikah,
education, and all other aspects that have a direct impact on their life are not cleared to women and even if cleared to them they do not know how to act accordingly to overcome such complicated dilemmas. Nargis is dedicated to many Office (Fiqa) programs for women to their rights and to find answers to their curiosity about their rights. Knowing their responsibility: Radio programs are aimed to teach women their responsibility,
to manage their houses, to orient their children, to advise their kids and husbands, hospitality, treat family nicely, and if possible to help the family economy.
Stopping un-Islamic and other taboos: Nargis breaks all taboos putting Islam as a faith of most of the people in this region. It also helps women to understand their responsibility and challenges while Afghan women are banned from many basic rights. Their faith can help them to learn
about their rights and how to secure them. Ways to solve women’s problems: Radio listeners call us during the show and receive answers
through phones. Most of their problems and worries are shared with women’s affairs offices in the country.

could be heard from the radio station and listeners can enjoy listening to the from home. It is all to release their stress and give them a hand of help to forget about everything and entertain themselves.

Health: Health programs cover health and advise women about their health and how to prevent disease while how to cure others. Our health programs give details on human health and we interview experts for these programs.
Prolonged women’s unemployment and poverty hit women’s economic situation worse. poor education and other problems have a bad impact on
women’s health, family stress, home chores, and malnutrition cause health problems. All these problems decoupage them and all health programs aimed to teach women how and when to act to secure their life how to face a challenge before it turns into a problem.
Maintaining Afghan Culture: Research has shown that society is valued based on a rich culture and better civilization.
As much as society is rich in its culture and way of life means a better-civilized society. Luckily, Afghan women made Afghan
history and they become legends in our culture. Afghan women hold pride of many achievements in the economy, health,

Sharq Radio

Sharq Radio is one of the top radios in Afghanistan, having the best programs in the region. Its has 1 KW transmitter with a 80 meter Tower. Sharq radio has 18 personnel male and female. According to the Survey of ALTAI consulting with the help of USAID, Sharq radio is on of the most trusted radio stations in the region, providing the listeners programs on such topics related directly and indirectly to the lifestyle of the listeners of the region. Sharq Radio is one of the radio stations started work for democracy and peace at a very hard time and in one of the most hostile regions of Afghanistan. Due to which its workers faced loots of problems and threats but opened a way to medias in the region. That is the reason today there are more than 16 private FM radio station in the eastern region. Sharq radio is now trying its best to improve its programs at its best, to full fill the needs of the listeners.

The radio broadcasts multi-themed programs including news, entertainment, music, community awareness, and public welfare.

Media Network

The Network is a multi-disciplinary private organization it was established on 20th August 1996. Since its inception the organization has carried out a number of philanthropic non-profit and for-profit projects in the fields of Health, Engineering, Education, and Media in eastern Afghanistan, it is owned by Shafiqullah Shaiq and the organization is headquartered in Nangarhar province of Afghanistan.
Sharq Radio Television which is a part of Shaiq Network is a media organization that consists of one radio and TV.
Sharq Radio which was established in 2003 is known in the eastern region as the very first private Radio station since its inception. Throughout the years the radio had expanded its reach and attracted millions of listeners and has recognition with many international organizations.
Sharq Radio also broadcasts online and daily streams live on Facebook.
Sharq Television was established in 2008 and it is also known as the very first private TV station in the eastern region, the channel broadcasts 24 hours a day and with 10 years of experience Sharq TV produces educational, news, shows, dramas, entertainment programs and it transmits hourly news and current affairs programs as well to the eastern zone. Sharq TV programs are mainly (90%) in the Pashto language. The channel is known for its news broadcasting which airs daily at 6:00 PM. The Channel has a Facebook page and a YouTube channel with daily uploads and a weekly video reach of over 700,000.

Sharq News Team consist of various employees such as journalists, editors, reviewers, news manager, and cameraman that gather news from different provinces of Afghanistan.
The team produces local news, provincial news, national news, and international news.
The gathered various reports are broadcasted on Sharq TV and Sharq Radio at 6:00 PM daily then afterward the reports are uploaded to the Facebook page and YouTube channel for more reach in social media. The News is also repeated at 8:00 PM, 12:00 PM, 03:00 AM, 7:00 AM and
10 AM. Sharq News team is a part of shaiq Network.

Located on 2000 square meters, the network constructed a four-story building in 2006 in Jalalabad city. The building serves as a one-stop shop for all media-related activities and needs of the clients. All operations of the network is conducted in this building.

Film Production
Established on 20th August 2004. The unit is aimed at increasing the culture of tolerance, and national unity, and fighting negative social customs in Afghanistan. The first production of this unit was a movie entitled ‘black poison’ which was released in 2005; the main purpose of this movie was to institutionalize the culture of anti-terrorism, drug addiction, poppy cultivation, and smuggling. 20,000 cost-free copies were distributed.

Community Development and Welfare

Promoting the culture of sports:

In 2005 the Network organized a cricket tournament for the 22 districts and 10 best teams of Nangarhar province. A number of prizes including a gold cup were awarded to the winning team.

In 2006 a running race (marathon) was organized for a distance of 10 kilometers; three hundred runners participated in the race.
